Jittery Simona Halep managed to keep focus in a nervy encounter as she sends home Sara Errani in straight sets and set up a semi- final showdown with Caroline Wozniacki at the Tennis Grand Prix.

With Maria Sharapova having already been eliminated, second seed Halep is the highest ranked player left in the draw, but she
had to dig deep for a 6-4 6-4 triumph over Errani in Stuttgart.

There were 16 breaks in total in a match where holding serve proved difficult.

Indeed, the only hold of the first set came in the first game of the match from Romanian Halep, who
followed with a wonderful backhand winner down the line to move 2-0 ahead.

Errani broke Halep on four occasions in the opener, but her failure to capitalise ended up costing her.

A run of 11 straight breaks came to an end in the seventh game of the second set and that was enough
for Halep to make the final four.

Wozniacki, the 2011 runner-up, enjoyed a more comfortable victory as the fourth seed defeated Carla
Suarez Navarro 6-0 6-3 in a contest that lasted little over an hour.

The semi-final line-up will be completed in Friday’s later quarter-finals, with Angelique Kerber taking on Ekaterina Makarova, and Madison Brengle facing Caroline Garcia.
