Jose Mourinho’s side produced a wonderful collective display in Wales, with Oscar and Diego Costa scoring twice, and substitute Andre Schurrle adding a fifth late on.

Filipe Luis started at left-back for the Blues, coming in for the injured Cesar Azpilicueta, and he was an assured presence at both ends of the pitch.

‘It’s always good to play and be part of the team but I’m more happy because we got three points at a really difficult stadium,’ said the 29-year-old. ‘Not many teams bring the points away from Swansea. It was amazing, all the team did a great job.

‘It was almost the perfect match; we didn’t make any mistakes, the whole team was highly concentrated and our attacking players were on fire, which makes our jobs as defenders easier. It was a complete performance and this is the level you need to keep going at if you want to be champions.

‘In the Premier League, even if you are winning 2-0 or 3-0 it’s never finished, the game is never over, so we had to try to score more goals and stay at the same level. We didn’t want to make any mistakes and we tried to play the best we can.’

Diego Costa took his tally to 17 for the season after scoring a first-half brace and, having played alongside the striker during their time at Atletico Madrid, Filipe Luis hasn’t been surprised by the speed in which the striker has adapted to life in England.

‘I’ve played with Diego for five years now, he’s an amazing player and he will get better every year,’ he said. ‘It’s a real honour to play in the same side as him.

‘It’s good to be top of the league and to put the pressure on teams around us but we just want to play well and keep the level high because the Premier League is the most difficult competition I’ve played in and any mistakes can cost you.
