Football games that went down last weekend left so much excitement in the minds of teeming football fans but also has some lessons of some sort.
Here are 5 things we learnt from football this weekend:-
OSHOALA HEROICS CONTINUES
If there is any name that has constantly been on the lips of Nigeria football fans since around August 2014, it has to be Asisat Oshoala.
The young Oshoala came into limelight at the Fifa U-20 world cup held in Canada where she scored seven goals and two assist with outstanding perfomances game in;game out in the competition thus winning the golden ball as the Mvp of the tournament and the golden
boot of the tournament as the highest goalscorer of the competition.
Going to the 2014 Africa Women Championship in Namibia,as expected she was in Edwin Okon’s team to the tourney and she lived up to billing as she formed a good partnership with U-20 team mate, Desire Oparanozie and other members of the team and as well with classic performances notably the game against the South Africans where she
scored a brace to ‘send’ Nigeria to the final and in the final against the Cameroonians, she got the second goal that confirmed Nigeria’s victory in the game.
All these won’t go unnoticed as she won the golden ball as the Mvp of the tournament this time at the senior level of Africa’s women football.
Congratulations Asisat ‘Superzee’ Oshoala!!!
JUDE ANEKE’S GOAL RECORD A ‘GOAL’ FROM BEING BROKEN
In the 2010/2011 Nigerian Professional League season, Jude Aneke broke Ahmed Musa’s record of 18 goals being the highest goal scored in a single season of the league when he scored 20 goals playing for Kaduna United in that particular season but that record as a matter of fact has been equalled by Emem Eduok (when he scored for Dolphins Fc in there 3-1 loss to Bayelsa
United) and Mfon Udoh(when he scored a brace in Enyimba’s 2-1 defeat of Nembe city).
With two games to spare in the Npfl this season, Jude Aneke’s record might just be a record of the past and considering the fact that both players(Eduok and Udoh) have been in good goalscoring
form,it obvious the record will be broken with the two games to spare.
MANCHESTER CITY NEEDS TO WATCH IT AGAINST ‘SMALLER’ TEAMS
There is no doubt that Manchester City has started the season in Epl in a good form and they(Manchester City) have been mounting the pressure on league
leaders Chelsea but the shortcoming majorly has come from losing to Stoke City at the Etihad and just this past weekend losing to West Ham 2-1 , Manchester City this season has gotten eight points from available 12pts against bigger sides like Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
It is now obvious that if Manchester City do not try to win games against relatively smaller teams,it might harm them in there course to retain the Epl this season as winning games against bigger teams alone will not be enough to get them the league.
BARCELONA DEFENCE NOT A ‘SAINT’
Going to the El-clasico over the weekend, Barcelona has gone 640 minutes plus added on time(s) without conceding a goal in the La liga this season but this will not continue as they conceded three against Real Madrid thus
telling us that the defence is no ‘saint’ especially when they are faced by a team with strong attacking prowess with due respect to the teams that Barcelona has faced in these 640 minutes plus, they have not really offered the defence a real test as it were.
DORTMUND STILL NOT GETTING IT RIGHT IN BUNDESLIGA
Borussia Dortmund woes continue as they suffered there 4th consecutive loss in the 1-0 home loss to Hannover 96 and now sit 14th in the 18 team Bundelsiga with an absymal seven points from the available 24 points with 8games played so far and are 13 points behind arch
rival and league leaders, Bayern
Munchen and there chances of winning
the Bundesliga continues to be more slimmer with these constant losses even when the league has not gone on winter break. Klopp watch it!
