Atletico Madrid defeated Real Madrid by 2-0 thanks to goals from Raul Garcia and Jose Maria Gimenez who put them on the spot of qualifying from the round of 16 in the Copa del Rey.
A penalty from Raul Garcia was added to by the Uruguayan centre-back to give Los Rojiblancos the upper hand in their Copa del Rey last-16 tie with their city-rivals.
Atletico Madrid took charge of their Copa del Rey last-16 meeting with arch-rivals Real Madrid with a 2-0 victory in the first leg at Vicente Calderon.
Following a goalless first half, Raul Garcia scored from the penalty spot and a header from Gimenez wrapped up the win in a heated Madrid derby.
Fernando Torres made the start having made a loan move from Milan as anticipated and gave Athleti a major boost as he was also the cynosure of all eyes at the Calderon.
Diego Simeone’s side at 90 minutes saw victory over Madrid that saw a second consecutive defeat and towards a second-leg with a-two-goal advantage.
