Shepolopolo players have defended their recent strike action adding that it did not amount to indiscipline.

The Zambia women’s national team staged a week-long stay-in at the FAZ
Technical Centre in Lusaka over unpaid
dues following their preliminary round
elimination from the 2014 African Womens Champions in Namibia over a
week ago.

FAZ general secretary George Kasengele
reprimanded the team and termed
their actions as an unprecedented level of gross indiscipline.

The Shepolopolo players left the FAZ
Technical Centre on Tuesday after they
were paid around US$300 termed as camping allowance from a total of $2000 while the outstanding amount will be
allowances for qualifying and participating at the African Womens
Championship.

“It is very disappointing that we have been labelled indiscipline today
when they forced us to go this far
over the matter.

We never wanted this matter to get
this far,” the players told Muvi TV.

“We are players, we are very proud of
our talents, we love our careers, we
love what we do but it is really disappointing that we have to drop
our talents and focus on other things.

“Had we just sat down, this thing will continue happening so it is better we speak out now so that people will know
what we go through in women’s football.”

Shepolopolo finished bottom of Group A with one point from three games in Namibia following defeats to hosts Namibia, eventual champions Nigeria
before drawing with bronze medalists Cote d’Ivoire.
