Right from the exit of Nigeria from the World Cup in Brazil till now the ‘kingdom’ of Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) have suffered FIFA wrath threats and yet no signs of resolution.
Who is at fault?
There are simple instructions, guidelines, rules whatever it may be to every agreement, every game most importantly every affiliation and once terms and conditions have been put to agreement that is, ‘deal done’.
No court injunction outside Court of Arbitration for Sports can be valid when it comes to FIFA and its relatives yet it seems this statement has to be written in 250 plus Nigerian languages so we can place it on the bill boards all over the country.
In most great footballing nations we hardly know who is in charge of administrative control (they are less popular the fans don not really care about them) here, our admin is as popular as our great footballers, the NFF is always the talking point.
Obviously, the football handlers are all at fault, the fight for power, the burning of the glass house, the court injunctions, the election and so many other ‘movie titles’ (issues) never stop to rock the country’s football platform and the talents, the passionate are to suffer for it.
The continent is becoming ashamed of the so called giant of Africa, where the Confederation of African Football (CAF) president had to plea to FIFA not to lay its dangling hammer on the nation which could jeopardise the African Women Championship (AWC) tournament even with the fact that the Nigerian women representatives where in the final stage.
CAF president Issa Hayatou: “I appealed to FIFA to give until Monday for Nigeria to put its act together. After that, there is absolutely nothing I can do. It is all very disappointing because we have over 50 National Associations in Africa, but a big country like Nigeria is the one always giving us the biggest headache.
“Nigeria signed to be part of the football world by joining FIFA, and opted to abide by the FIFA –approved Statutes that you have. How many times do we have to
tell your country that football matters are not taken to civil courts? If Nigeria no longer wants to be part of the football world, then so be it,”
The problems
Same court, Federal High Court, Jos gave a ruling setting aside the FIFA –ordered elections of 30th September, 2014 into the NFF Executive Committee, stoking the fire of anger at the world body’s Zurich headquarters.
The NFF Executive Committee, led by Amaju Pinnick, has filed for a Stay-of-Execution of the order at the same court, which the court said it will be to hear on
Wednesday.
So many things would be at stake if FIFA falls to the lingering temptation by the nation’s football authorities to strike the hammer and a lot will be left in dilemma till FIFA comes back on the issue in the 65th congress on may 29, 2015.
For a country that holds the record of being the first African nation to hold the African Cup on both senior men and women categories as defending champions, which way Nigeria?
