We’ve seen the end of an intriguing ” Road to release of World Cup squad” sounds like a movie but it as ended actually.
Having seen what some players could do in the ‘versus Scotland test’ we(Nigerians) and Super Eagles followers had list of players already we feel have the go ahead to the tournament.
But the only man who has the power to do and undo has giving the last command. So let’s refresh how minds with the list again.
Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide, Chigozie Agbim
Defenders: Joseph Yobo, Elderson Echiejile, Juwon Oshaniwa, Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike Egwuekwe,
Kenneth Omeruo, Efe Ambrose, Kunle Odunlami
Midfielders: John Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Ramon Azeez, Michael Uchebo, Reuben Gabriel
Strikers: Osaze Odemwingie, Ahmed Musa, Shola Ameobi, Emmanuel Emenike, Babatunde Michael,
Victor Moses, Uche Nwofor
Shocking drops
Nnamdi Oduamadi, Sunday Mba, Ejike Uzoenyi were all dropped in the list alongside others.
Oduamadi was instrumental against scotland, the Varese man gave a vital assist that secured Nwofor that spectacular goal but he did not make it to the World Cup.
Mba did not show any sign to lift his World Cup hopes, he just finished a ‘bad season’ in the ligue deux with CA Bastia currently relegated to the third tier league all join together, the man who made it possible for Nigeria to be African champions will not be in Brazil to play.
Uzoenyi, powerful winger at the CHAN, Nations Cup for African league players saw the exit too, well, the Enugu Rangers star man unfortunately couldn’t make it, but can for the upcoming ones.
Debutants
17 players would have the World Cup experience for the first time, the likes of Enyeama, Ejide, Agbim, Osaze, Yobo, Mikel can boast of annother appearance.
First eleven
To take a wild guess without killing anything, Stephen Keshi’s pattern is always balanced, out of various formations he may wish to adopt, the 4-3-3 was a power strategy in the African Cup of Nations, we saw that synergie between Moses-Emenike-Musa at the upfront in AFCON, now, Odewingie joins the block, which means its either Moses drops back to the Midfield or stays on bench as a sub, or Musa vice-versa.
In the midfield, usually, its Onazi, Mikel, and a third man Igiebor or Mba and Mikel controls the defensive play but neither Nosa Igiebor or Sunday Mba will be at the World Cup as member of the squad, rather, we put there Ramon Azeez who is technical and strong or Uchebo who is offensive mentally.
Now the defence, the usual suspects are there Efe Ambrose-Omeruo-Oboabona-Echiejile Keshi’s AFCON major pairings so captain Joseph Yobo may come in to play has Keshi’s tactics demands.
The next game is against Greece on wednesday and USA afterwards before Iran in the opening match for the team.
Indeed the future is ours to see.
