The Uruguay international could miss the World Cup due to a knee injury that occurred during the training session with the national team.

The 27-year-old will undergo a knee operation 3 weeks from the start of Uruguay World Cup match slated for June 14 against Costa Rica.

The recovery time will depend on how bad his knee will be and how successful will be the operation.

“According to the information I have received a short while ago, they are optimistic that he can make the World Cup,” national team secretary Roberto
Pastoriza said.

“Suarez felt a problem in his knee, so he went for some tests. It all happened very quickly, a few hours ago [Wednesday night]. The matter is being looked
after by the national team’s medics. I cannot say anything else. It will be announced officially by the AUF on Thursday morning.”
