Mourinho started his football career as a player in the Portuguese second division.
He studied Sport Science in Technical University Of Lisbon.
His father played professional football for Os Belenenses and Vitória de Setúbal, earning one cap for Portugal in the course of his career.
Mourinho taught Physical Education at various schools and after five years he earned his diploma.
In 1990 he started professional management and was appointed as a youth team coach at Vitória de Setúbal.
He advanced to becoming an interpreter to Sir Bobby Robson who was a top class coach at Lisbon, Sporting CP.
