John Obi Mikel has called on his
Nigeria team-mates to prepare
thoroughly for the 2014 World Cup
as they look to improve on their form
at the tournament.
The Super Eagles had a dismal outing at
the 2010 World Cup in South Africa,
picking up just one point as they
crashed out at the group phase without
winning a game.
Under Stephen Keshi, however, the
Super Eagles have been playing
arguably the best brand of football on
the continent, which was evident in
their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
triumph.
And Mikel has urged the squad to stay
focussed on working hard in the build-
up to the showpiece in Brazil, hoping to
translate his success at club level to the
international stage.
“My personal goal is to make sure that I
am part of a very successful team. I
have won trophies with Chelsea and I
want to win trophies with the national
team as well,” Mikel told Brilafm.net.
“Until this happens, I won’t be satisfied
with my international career. We need
to prepare well, play friendly games,
and try to make sure that we get a good
team before the World Cup.
“We had a very bad outing at the last
World Cup so we hope that in 2014, we
can play very well.”
